Punggol War Memorial Trek 18072008

Date : 18/07/2008
The Mission : To trek from Pei Hwa Sec to Punggol Beach War Memorial using a map
Objective : To be able to reach the destination using the shortest route and the shortest time

The Champions : Team Oscar + 2 Dragons
Teacher-in-charge : Mdm Stacey Low
Team Leader : Yu An
Navigator and 1st scout : Chong Wee and Zi Yang
Medical Supplies : Hong Jun (supplied insect repellant!)
Total time taken : 1 hr 15 mins

Teacher's Comment : The team had a very strong leader who took very good care of his team mates (helping the weaker ones carry bags and always being the last man looking after the slower ones) Well-done, Yu An. The navigator, Chong Wee was also very steady and confident in leading the group. The rest of the team members were also very supportive and helped each other when the going got tough!

1st Runners-up : Team Apache +1 Dragon
Teacher-in-charge : Ms Sophia Tan
Team Leader : Zen
Navigators : Everyone took turns
Total time taken : 1 hr 30 mins

Teacher's Comment : The leader was very steady and was seen herding the members and making sure of their safety. Team members were also very supportive and took turns to help look at the map and decided together as a team how to reach their destination. Keep it up!!

2nd Runners-up : Cougar
Teacher-in-charge : Ms Grace Tan
Team Leader : Ira
Navigators : All
Total time taken : 2 hrs

Teacher's Comment : Team leader, Ira was always looking out for safety of her members and encouraging them on. More could be done by the group members to help each other out along the way and taking the initiative.
The 2 groups were cheering the last group on as they ran towards their finishing point.

On the way there....far from the madding crowd...

Group Oscar and Dragon taking time for a group shot.
Trudging forward under the cloudy sky...
Dashing across field in a bid to shorten the distance....

and more fields...
across LRT tracks...

along deserted roads...
Finally......reaching our destination! The end reward was the scenery that greeted us...a wide expanse of sea and sandy beach.
Now it was time to PLAY!!!

By the time the last group reached, it was almost 5. So we all decided to take the bus back instead so that we can be in time for our Physical Training!
Walking to the only bust stop in sight.

Along the way, we stopped to smell the ...err...grass and trees (ha ha no roses mah!). These are some flora we saw...
lalang...
Wild weeds...
and more weeds...
This reminded me of Cappadocia in Turkey...

Farewell Ms Tans -Grace and Sophia

The Spread...compliments of Ms Yeo.
Our BOSS...

Sec 1 Outdoor Cooking 110708

2.30pm : ODACians assembled outside ODAC room to take attendance.
3 pm : Ms Tan demonstrating the use of the canister and safety measures. Each group was then given 2 cans of canister, 2 mess tins, one box, 2 cups, a pair of fork and spoon, some uncooked rice, some dried scrimps, french beans, garlic, onions and 3 eggs. Oil, salt, soya sauce, pepper was provided on request. The rubrics of assessment was based on Teamwork, Food presentation and Taste.
Apache and 1 dragon getting started. The chefs were Ghee Ren and Yu An.

The rule given was that nothing is to be wasted...else punishment is in line. Oops ,Oscar just dropped an egg... ten push ups from Ms Tan.

Cougar seemed to be lost and undecided on what they are going to cook.

This group seemed to be getting somewhere.

Most of their rice seemed ok except that not all the grains were cooked.

4.30Pm: Apache and Dragon were the first to get organised and first to finish.

Cougar took a bit longer to get their act together but they still did a pretty good job in the end. According to Mr Chng, their food was the yummiest!

Despite losing an egg, the Oscar team still managed to whip up rice and 2 yummy dishes.
The winning team was a no-guesser; Apache and their 1 dragon member. In terms of teamwork and food presentation, they scored the highest.

The Cougars need to work more on their organisational skills as well as cooperation among team members.
The Oscar team had too many supporters and too few leaders. Everyone was too shy to take the lead. On the whole it was a good experience for them as this was the 1st cooking experience for majority of them. The group members all finished eating what they had cooked down to the very last grain of rice!

Watch how the team work together to cook a meal of rice and 2 dishes.

Lower Pierce Nature Trek 270608

Started off from school at about 2.30pm after briefing the Sec 1s. Waited about 15min for bus 163. The students were fairly well-behaved on the bus. The students were thrilled when they saw so many monkeys at the carpark area. Apparently for some of them, this was their 1st time seeing monkeys!! The board walk took about 30 mins and we saw lots of squirrels, monkeys and skinks. It was shady and cool and serene. The students were delighted at their encounter with nature.
We arrived at the reservoir and played a teambuilding game. The 4 teams were each given a piece of newspaper and everyone had to stand on it. They will have to continue folding the paper till the last group standing wins. It was fun seeing them organise themselves on the paper as it gets smaller.
This is the group that went: Rui Wen, Amanda, Ghee Ren, Megan, Zen. Xinyuan, Yu An, Zulaika, ZiYang Rafidah, Munirah, Sakinah, Ira, HongJun, Chong Wee, Syakir, Haziq, Ummu.

We were all back by 520pm and waited for the sec 2s and 3s for PT (Physical Training)
All the teachers, Mr Ong, Mr Chng, Ms Tan Grace and Ms Tan Sophia, including Mr Jae joined in the Suicide Drill, against the students. We ended at 6.45pm.
