Dragon Boat Competition at Anchorvale 09/03/2008

Cheerleading Squad No 1: Sec 4 ODACians

Cheerleading Squad No 2 : Meryl, Kyle and their granddad

The 14 strong team from Pei Hwa Odac gathered at the new Anchorvale Community Club at 8.30am to prepare for the Dragon Boat Competition. They were the 'babies' as they were competing against all adults from RCs( resident committee), CSC (Sports Club), HongKong Club and last but not least, the most formidable team of the day.....The Civil Defence!!! (Forgot to take pictures of those muscular guys....drool!!)

The morning started off sunny and we were all in an upbeat mood waiting for the fun to begin. We waited...and waited and waited...until....

we got bored and started playing with our handphones and rubrik cubes.

Look! Mr Chng is standing here wondering what is going to happen next!

Finally at 9.30 am, the Odacians started to do their warming up. By then they had all seen their competitors and eyes were rolling and heads shaking. Who wouldn't be when you look at the thick biceps and triceps of the Civil Defence Team??? :0) (sigh...should have taken a picture of the Civil Defence Team *slap forehead*)

Nonetheless, we compete not only for the sole purpose of winning but its in the spirit of fun and adding more new experiences to our lives. The important thing was that WE WERE THERE and we had a chance to rub shoulders with many others that we otherwise would not have a chance to. Our life is richer because of it. ( and we have pictures to prove it!!! and hey we even saw PM Lee Hsien Loong up close and personal! )

True enough, we didn't make it to the finals but its OK. We are young and there's always NEXT TIME! And next time, we will do BETTER!!

We had our box lunch at about 11 and then waited to receive our Medals of Appreciation.(see video below)

Look at our bright and shiny medals!!! Our reward for a morning well-spent!

WE"LL BE BACK!!!!!

ODAC meeting on 29th Feb

Teambuilding games by the Sec 2s
The sec 2s led in the teambuilding games and PT which they had planned. The kids had fun rubbing shoulders (and backsides :o) with one another!! There was a debrief at the end by the teachers and the groups were dismissed at 6.30pm.

The 2 teams who completed their basha. Well done!!

Sec 1s were taught how to build a basha together using the knots that they had learnt last week. They collected the necessary equipment and we proceeded to the field where a demonstration was shown. The students were then taught to do a butterfly knot to tie the string to the peg. Many failed to build the basha due to the lack of tension and the positioning of the pegs. At the end, only 2 teams managed to get their basha up!! But...not to worry...WE"LL BE BACK!!!

Dragon Boat Training at Kallang River 24/02

12 sec 2 students turned up at the new Anchorvale CC to train for the dragonboat competition on the 9th March. We departed at 11.30am and reached Kallang at about 12. 10 of the students formed one team on their own with a coxswain and 2 others joined the adult team from the CC. We had fun when we had some friendly competition between the 2 boats and also when we stopped by a beach (see video clip). Training ended at 2 and we reached Sengkang at 2.45pm.

Welcome Tea for Sec 1s

The Sec 1s were officially welcomed into PeiHwa ODAC on the 15th February. They had their 1st taste of what is Water Parade and were told to bring at least 1 litre bottle for the next meeting and to be dressed in their PE attire.
The seniors then brought their teams to play some ice-breakers and to get to know their team members before getting together to play Blanket game.
Then it was Snack Attack! The Sec ones had to really work hard to get their food. They had to cheer and cheer until voices were hoarse but they were still unable to be louder than the Sec 4s. It was after many rounds before they finally get to taste their rewards...muffins, cakes and lollipops!!
